Discover The Magic With Foerster Travel: An Award-Winning Travel Agency.

There’s a running joke among travel agents that St. Lucia is almost impossible to photograph — not because it’s not beautiful, but because no image ever quite captures what it actually looks like when you’re standing there. The twin Piton peaks rise straight out of the Caribbean Sea. The rainforest is impossibly green from the interior. The sunsets are turning the water shades of orange and pink that feel slightly overdone, like a painting that’s trying too hard. And then you’re there, and you realize — no, it really looks like that.

St. Lucia is our agents’ go-to recommendation when a client says they want romance, luxury, and something genuinely memorable. It delivers on all three without any effort. The island is lush, dramatic, and intimate in a way that the larger Caribbean islands sometimes aren’t.

North vs. South: Knowing Which Side of the Island Is Right for You

This is the single most important decision you’ll make when planning a St. Lucia trip, and it’s also the one most travelers don’t know to ask about until it’s too late.

Northern St. Lucia (Rodney Bay, Castries)

The north is more developed and more accessible — it’s close to Hewanorra International Airport… actually, wait. Hewanorra is in the south. Here’s the thing: the airport is in the south, near Vieux Fort. So traveling to a northern property actually means a longer transfer — often 1.5 to 2 hours. Northern properties like the Royalton and Cap Maison appeal to travelers who want a livelier atmosphere, more dining options, and easy access to Rodney Bay’s restaurants and nightlife.

Southern St. Lucia (Soufrière, Marigot Bay)

This is where the magic lives. Jade Mountain. Anse Chastanet. Sugar Beach. These iconic properties sit within sight of the Pitons and are surrounded by what feels like a living, breathing jungle. The drive from the airport is shorter (about 30–45 minutes), and once you’re there, you’re immersed in the most dramatic scenery on the island. Almost every “wow” photo you’ve seen of St. Lucia was taken in this area.

What to Do in St. Lucia

St. Lucia rewards the curious. Yes, you could spend an entire week on your resort’s beach and be perfectly happy. But the island has a remarkable amount to offer beyond it. The Sulphur Springs geothermal park in Soufrière — billed as the world’s only “drive-in volcano” — is genuinely unlike anything else in the Caribbean. The mud baths are sulfuric and slightly absurd and absolutely worth doing. The rainforest canopy tours are legitimately thrilling. And the local Creole food scene, centered around Friday night street parties in Gros Islet, is a reminder that St. Lucia has a culture and a character all its own.
